CAPTAIN TROY M. PARRIA

I was born and raised on the bayou in a commercial fishing community, and I will forever be grateful for my family and experiences that shaped me into the person I am today. From shrimping, crabbing, and oystering to operating vessels in the oilfield, those roots remain a defining part of who I am. The bayou is not just where I come from; it is where I will always be anchored.
I am proud to be the first in my immediate family to go on to earn both a college degree and a law degree. My wife and I worked hard to make that dream possible, often selling shrimp, even in the law school parking lot, to help pay my way. I have spent my life on the water and in the maritime industry. While I am a lawyer today, I am also a shrimper and a licensed vessel captain.
I know firsthand what it is like to lose work because of an injury. When you are hurt, whether in a vehicle accident, a slip and fall, on the job, or especially on a boat, it is more than just a case to me. It is personal.

ON A MISSION
I know firsthand the challenges that commercial fishermen and oilfield workers continue to face. Dangerous work environments, rough seas, and long days and nights away from loved ones take a heavy toll on hardworking people. I have lived those realities myself, navigating the perils of the Gulf just as so many other mariners and service hands do each day to provide for their families.
Those experiences shaped my understanding of fairness and resilience, and they ultimately led me to law school with a commitment to give back. Today, I am passionate about the work I do because it allows me to stand beside those who need an advocate. It is not just a career for me—it is a calling rooted in the life I have lived and the people I come from.
